Greetings, Flower Friends!

We’re Emi and Ralf, the husband-and-wife team behind Black Haus Blooms, a specialty cut flower farm and floral design boutique located in Earlysville, Virginia. Our 2.3-acre micro-farm, nestled in Albemarle County, is just 15 minutes northwest of the University of Virginia.

Our love for flowers and nature led us to create a space where beauty, sustainability, and community come together. Every flower we grow is nurtured with care, and every arrangement we design reflects the seasons and the land we cultivate. During the growing season, we start our flowers from seed right here on our farm, ensuring exceptional quality, freshness, and beauty.

We also share this farm with a lively bunch of animals full of character—so don’t be surprised if you see our two sheep hopping around the yard or hear our ducks quacking as they waddle by. They bring just as much joy to the farm as the flowers do!

At Black Haus Blooms, we are honored to bring beauty into your life by carefully growing and arranging flowers that spark joy, create memories, and brighten your days. Whether it's a simple bouquet from our stand or florals for a special occasion, it means the world to us to share our blooms with you.

We provide seasonal, homegrown flowers through our flower stand, hands-on workshops, and custom floral designs. In the off-season, our floral design boutique offers carefully curated wholesale blooms, allowing us to bring floral beauty and cheer to our community year-round.

We’d love to share our flowers with you. Visit our shop, sign up for a workshop, or stop by our flower stand to experience the magic of fresh, local blooms.

Thank you for supporting locally grown and thoughtfully sourced flowers—we are honored to be a small part of bringing beauty and happiness into your life!

  • Our journey into flower farming began with a deep shared appreciation for the incredible benefits that flowers bring to our lives. Flowers have the power to brighten a space, lift a mood, and connect us to the natural world in a way that few things can. Whether it’s the joy of growing a plant from seed, the sense of calm that comes from tending a garden, or the happiness that fresh blooms bring into a home, we’ve experienced firsthand how flowers nurture both the land and the soul.

What started as a simple love for gardening grew into something much bigger. Over the years, our small home gardens expanded, each one a little larger than the last, until we realized our passion wasn’t just about growing for ourselves—it was about sharing the beauty, healing, and inspiration that flowers provide with others.

Beyond growing, Emi finds endless creativity in arranging flowers, transforming each stem into something unique and expressive. She especially loves working with wedding and event clients who have a vision in mind, collaborating to create florals that feel personal, intentional, and reflective of their special moments. Every arrangement is a blend of artistry and nature, a way to bring emotions to life through flowers.

Along the way, we also developed a deep love for pollinators and the vital role they play in the natural world. Watching bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds move through our fields, helping flowers bloom and thrive, reminds us that we are part of something much greater. We grow not just for people but for the delicate ecosystem that makes life possible.

Today, we take pride in sowing each seed ourselves and nurturing every plant with care, knowing that flowers do so much more than just look beautiful—they bring peace, connection, creativity, and joy to those who experience them. Our farm is built on this belief, and we are honored to share our blooms with you.

  • Emi has always been fascinated by nature, especially flowers—their delicate details, vibrant colors, and the way each bloom unfolds in its own time. No two flowers are ever the same, and even the so-called “flawed” stems carry a unique beauty that adds character to an arrangement. This endless variety fuels her creativity, offering infinite possibilities in floral design.

One of the most magical moments in flower farming is witnessing the full cycle of growth. There’s a deep sense of wonder in harvesting a stunning bloom that started from a tiny seed weeks before. With snips in hand, Emi often finds herself pausing in stillness, fully present, admiring the intricate beauty of a single flower—one that might only exist in that exact form for a fleeting moment.

Flowers have a way of connecting us to nature, to each other, and to ourselves. Through these quiet yet powerful moments, we deepen our awareness of the natural world, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us every day.

  • Did you know that over 80% of flowers sold in the U.S. are imported? These blooms often travel thousands of miles before reaching your local store, leaving behind a significant carbon footprint and arriving with a shortened vase life—often already a week old by the time they reach your home.

Beyond the environmental impact, many imported flowers are grown using harsh pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, which can be harmful to both the environment and the workers who handle them. In many cases, the labor conditions on large commercial farms overseas are poor and exploitative, making it even more important to consider where our flowers come from.

During the growing season, we proudly grow our flowers from seed right here on our farm, ensuring you receive the freshest, highest-quality blooms with a longer vase life. In the off-season, we carefully source wholesale flowers from trusted growers, prioritizing sustainable and ethically grown blooms whenever possible.

By choosing locally grown and thoughtfully sourced flowers, you’re not only bringing home fresher, more vibrant blooms, but you’re also supporting small farms, ethical labor practices, and a more sustainable floral industry. Whether they’re grown on our farm or sourced during the off-season, we take pride in offering flowers that are selected with care and intention—because every bloom should tell a beautiful story.

  • At our farm, we prioritize sustainability, biodiversity, and the health of our entire ecosystem. We grow our flowers using chemical-free practices, ensuring that every bloom is safe for our customers, our land, and the many pollinators and beneficial insects that call our farm home.

Emi deeply values the role of pollinators—bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds—as well as other beneficial insects that naturally support plant health, aid in pollination, and help keep pest populations in balance. By avoiding harmful pesticides and synthetic chemicals, we create a thriving, biodiverse environment where flowers and wildlife can coexist in harmony.

This approach not only results in stronger, longer-lasting blooms but also supports a healthier, more resilient ecosystem. Every flower we grow is a reflection of the care, respect, and dedication we put into our land—because a truly beautiful bloom begins with a healthy foundation.

Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.
